Okay, another note to self...

I most certainly can not log in to the UNIX servers here in the office as user ID "feren." Forgetting this mental note is only going to lead to another fifteen-minute debug session as I try to figure out why the server won't let me in despite my providing it with login credentials that I thought are legitimate (and they are legitimate... just not at work!). It simply is not going to work.

I may use this name interchangably with the one my parents gave me when dealing with humans, but the Solaris systems are far less forgiving.

When will Solaris allow symbolic linking of usernames? When? WHEN?!

When I started with my current company as an IT contractor 6+ years ago, they allowed me to use the handle I had been using since 1991 for every computer login I had ever had, tetragon.

That was nice of them, but the actual companies I contract at are never as forgiving. Very occasionally (once or twice a year) I'll turn up to work at a customer's site, and be utterly stumped as to why I cant login. :)

This is why I don't use my avatar's name as a login name everywhere. There may be a few stragglers out there, and if so, I really should ask the admins responsible to change the login name. panther may be the one place it is frosty because I think you set it up for me.
