feren: I AM THE MAN (pissy)

There is a high pressure sodium security light shining brightly into my bedroom, courtesy of the newly constructed NTB. It is in fact so bright that I can read a newspaper while I lay in bed -- without turning on my reading lamp. The shade and blinds help by dimming things but they're still glowing far more than they normally would. THat glow pisses me off no small amount. The construction company, store owner and I are going to Have Words about this tomorrow. This was not part of the deal. After the day I had at work I didn't need to come home to this.

In other news, on Sunday I picked up Neil Gaiman's American Gods and have started reading it. [livejournal.com profile] rhiacat and [livejournal.com profile] moryssa both suggested it in my entry from the 17th, so I decided to grab a hardcover copy since [livejournal.com profile] jasra was nice enough to give me a coupon for 25% off one item at Borders. I'm a couple dozen pages in and enjoying it thoroughly -- it has much of the same "Flavor" as Good Omens but follows a completely different plotline. On a related note, I badly need some bookshelves in my household. I don't mean the fiberboard junkers you can pick up at Wal-Mart, I mean I need bookshelves that are made out of solid wood. Oak would be nice. IKEA need not apply.

I hated every day of high school

Yeesh, kinda like being in a cheap downtown motel, eh?

Speaking of bookshelves:

I hace a copy of Gaiman's Ananzi Boys in my backpack. A friend of mine loaned it to me so that I can be more familiar with Gaiman. Ultimately, he wants me to read American Gods as well. I'm just not in the mindset for reading right now but I should at least read the book so I can give it back to him in a timely manner.

At the place [livejournal.com profile] roho and I shared in Urbana, there was a sodium lamp outside that shone directly into our windows.

That wouldn't be so bad in and of itself, I guess. But the light was also worn out and needing of replacement, resulting it in turning on and off randomly.

Waking me up every time.

[like being in a cheap downtown motel]

Yeah, but without the possible redemption of hookers.

[Speaking of bookshelves...]

I've always maintained that IKEA is an otherworldly dimension of suffering. I wouldn't mind going ot the bookcase dimension right now, though... I bet they don't charge shipping.

Like I said back on the 17th, if I keep indulging in hobbies that make my blood pressure spike I'm going to have an aneurysm before age 28. According to [livejournal.com profile] crackjackal, this is not a worthwhile life goal. I'm actually enjoying reading again, but I can sympathize with simply not being in the mood for that sort of thing. You have to be in a certain mindset to really enjoy reading (or, at the very least, not have it be a hellaciously insufferable experience).

I don't know how you survived that. By the fifth night I'd have been investigating ways to destroy the light. Shotgun, slingshot, arrows, whatever it would take.

Eh, it's nothing new. I don't remember the last time I got a decent night's sleep.
