I want to destroy Roho for pointing me to this. A fully refurbished DeLorean, for $35,000... and you can even custom-order it online with added features for a fairly reasonable fee. For example, you can get the 3-speed automatic or the 5-speed manual, you can get the exterior and interior to your spec, you can even get the engine upgraded to a 197 hp model (a significant uplift from the one that was originally offered stock). No, there is no "Flux Capacitor" package option...

I've been dreaming about owning one of these beauties for over ten years and only missed the one I was bidding on by a few hundred dollars... and that one was busted up and in need of some TLC. Now I've found out I can go buy a like-new one with a warranty with all the toys?!? This isn't fair.

Buy a house, or buy a collector's car. House, or collector's car... house, or car?

Now, this was 10 years ago, so maybe the market has changed significantly, but I used to pick up the car shopper magazines (you know, the ones that are basically classified ads with pictures) and I would always see 1 to 3 DeLoreans in it hovering around the $10,000 mark, usually in pretty good shape.

Me, if I paid $35k for a DeLorean, I'd be loathe to take it out on the street, whereas one that I paid $15k for, I'd feel better about taking it out on the streets fairly often.

But the house will last you about as long. Seriously, Deloreans are not disappearing very quickly due to all that pretty stainless steel and their being perfect collectors cars.

I am told that there is a dealership in NJ that does nothing but Deloreans and the base price's about $8000 (cocaine not included).

Get the house. Pay off the house. Use the equity to finance the car =)
