After a lot of aimless driving and creative cursing (damn you, Mapquest!) I finally got to the Hillsdale FedEx facility to pick up my package from newegg. I talked to three other people in line and they all said they had trouble finding the place as well, so I don't feel so bad. Despite the hardships I got my shipment and returned home to Z'ha'dum to unbox it. I now have my cablemodem set up and connected to my PC. Now I just need cable to make it go! That problem will, with luck, be solved tomorrow.

Gotta get up and in to the office a half-hour earlier in the morning to oversee a campus conversion off our frame cloud and onto the new ATM network, so I'll be going to bed early. This is fine by me since I'm feeling rather sick to my stomach tonight -- curling up in bed sounds pretty good.

Dude, Mapquest has fucked us on more than one occasion. The last time I used MQ for directions we ended up rolling around Cleveland looking for our friend's address, until we ended up on the far side of his development community where they were concealing this gigantic phallic monolith.

I was looking for a new BK local to my office since I'd heard the one at the intersection of routes 106 and 152 had burned down. So I get the new location's address from the BK web site and get the map from MapQuest. Okay, go to the intersection of Messenger Rd with Taunton Rd, by way of US 1.

Nowhere on the map did MapQuest indicate that Messenger Rd is Route 106 and Taunton Rd is Route 152. Fuckers. Had I known it was in the same place, I would have gone a much less roundabout route and probably saved a few minutes travel time.

(Apparently BK rebuilt on the old location. :P)

I still can't eat BK because of the raging case of food poisoning the local one hit me with.

On the other hand, Taunton Road makes me want to believe there's a road named after the fuzzy kangaroo things from Empire Strikes Back, and while it's not true, the thought is a pleasing one.

The people who program the information for Mapquest's searches smoke a little of the good stuff. Back about 5 years ago, I got directions from Mapquest to a friend's house in Kentucky. The majority of the instructions were fine... right up into they got me to the city. Then, instead of taking a right at the main intersection and traveling south on the main street about 2.5 miles to my friend's home, they had me continue through the light about 4 miles, turn right down one country back road, jog onto another country back road which was one lane and had a one lane bridge(!), and exit on the main street/route about 4 miles south of my friend's house. Of course, it was my first time there and I was so disoriented I had no idea where I wound up. I consulted the last page, which stated 'there are x.x (about 4) miles remaining after the last step of these instructions'. O_o I went up the road one way and then the other, finally stopping at a gas station with a restaurant next door full of farmers and other country bumpkins giving me odd looks. The gas station attendant was able to show me a map that gave me my bearings.
