My water bill arrived last night, and I just opened it. The total isn't what scares me, oh no. What I really want to know is how the hell I managed to use 2,000 gallons in the span of 42 days! I mean, yes... I do enjoy taking long, hot showers but I can't account for forty-seven gallons per day with that!

All I can say to that is "wow."

I guess the water balloon/Super Soaker battle royale has been cancelled, eh? =/

*snicker* First off, how big is your water heater? And do you shower until all the hot water is gone? If you have the standard 40 gallon water heater and shower until it turns cold....trust me, you've just used 40 gallons right there.

Do you flush the toilet a lot? :-)

Do you flush random things down your toilet a lot? :-)

I was just going to suggest that Ra flushes the toilet all day while Fer is at work.

Better that than what my parents' late cat would do during the day: licking the butter dish!

Average bathrub holds aprox 100 gallons. A long shower will fill a bathtub about half-way full or thereabouts.

Each toilet flush is typically more than a gallon.

Washing dishes and leaving the water running uses a -lot- of water. Use a dishwasher or pre-fill the sink.

There's a lot of ways water can vanish. Also, if you have an in-ground sprinkler system -make sure the cutoff is activated- during the winter months.

And if you have a water softener, it uses a bunch of water when it refreshes.

Really annoying flow-limited shower heads are one gallon per minute. Less annoying ones are 1.5 to 2 gpm. I usually take 20 minute showers with a head that I run at what I would guess is 1 gpm.

But I don't pay for water-- that's included in the condo fee. >:)

I'd much rather be living in a house with a yard and taking three minute showers, though.
