Everyone posting "OMG Oh Emm Gee OMG no spoilers!!!!!111!!!1!1111eleventyone" for the new Harry Potter: shut up. Cock in the mouth. Just gargle on it and shut the everloving christ up. That goes double for you people who've gone to the length of using an image banner in your ravings so as to achieve that perfect level of obnoxiousness. It's cool that you're excited and I can sympathize to an extent, but I've never seen the collective IQ of LiveJournal drop so sharply in such a short period of time over something people might do but haven't yet.

If people put as much energy into our political systems as they are putting into preemptive wrath for spoilers of a children's novel, our world would be a hell of a lot better place.

Normally I love you folks, but right now a good portion of you are just being a complete bunch of spasmos.

I never cared about Harry Potter because I'm not 11 years old.

I tried watching one of the movies with some friends, but was left utterly distinterested. To each their own, I guess.

The problem I have with the whole Harry Potter thing is adults reading the books. I'm talking about the adults who read these books and are proud to have done so, like they deserve a reward because they read a fucking book, as if they just swamped through War and Peace in Sanskrit or something.

Well, as a LJ Stalker Extraordinaire, I'm pretty sick of the HP stuff myself, although I abandoned the franchise long ago after seeing the second movie and asking my HP-infused roomies, "So... Does Harry actually grow a personality, or is just a slow jock getting by on daddy's trust fun for the rest of the books?"

The answer persuaded me to avoid any further interaction. :)

However, as this is LJ, drama is always the order of the day.

Eh ... I can understand. Some people just *don't get it* that they shouldn't go blabbing stories around. (I myself have that problem from time to time.) I myself have nearly leapt through the computer or radio to throttle someone when people have blabbed stuff about Aliens 4 or The Sixth Sense before those two movies were a week out of the theatre (or, in the case of Aliens 4, before it was even in the theatre).

Obviously it's not because people are pissed that people *might* do it... it's because they're pissed because people have done it with past books, and they don't want a *repeat occurance*.

It probably didn't take them as long to write up their "Don't ruin the book for me" posts as it took you to write up your complaint about it - I'd personally rather that they *didn't* spend as much time on politics as they did on writing that post, but instead would devote an actually /significant/ portion of time towards being intelligent voters.

I'd also try to explain to you the strong developing theme in the series about the necessity of participating in political systems and world events rather than leaving things to bureaucratic careerists, but I don't think you'd listen if I did.

I have to agree, nothing he said was a complaint about people reading, or even talking about reading.

What he complained about was the massive pre-emptive strike of obnoxiousness of a million people crying out "no spoilers". It's kind of like Las Vegas driving down your street, lights blazing, to say "Don't forget to fed your cat!" There is such thing as overkill, this was overkill, just like taking out a Photomat with a cruise missile would be.

I haven't seen anyone be obnoxious and overkillable about the book, just people being obnoxious and whiny over the people who want to read it. This leads me to conclude that if you're seeing people obnoxiously going on about the book, then either you guys have friended the wrong LJs and communities, in which case you should get some new ones, or else you're living in some sort of curious world of your own making. You can take your pick. *grins*

My own request for no spoilers?

Some dumbass on some social MUSH I chat on leaked a really large spoiler without a spoiler warning out of nowhere because he thought -everyone- knew already because of course, it was such a huge deal to him. There are dumb fucks out there who just don't think beyond themselves unless battered incessantly with reminders.

So yeah, now I know something I would rather not have known because someone did spoil something for me. Call it childish, whatever.
