So we went to the Salvation Army today... And while I was there I found a few things I wanted.

A few things??

Is it me, or did I see a few Stephen King books in there?

They're all Stephen King hardcovers in that stack.

At some point in time I should summon you up to Milwaukee and Leigh and I can show you the used book store we found up that way. It's incredible.

Sounds like Renaissance Books.
If that's the case, you have the added bonus of an awesome Thai restaurant only a block away from the book store.

Don't recall offhand. It's across the street from the State Fair Grounds... possibly on ... greenfield? Also across the street from a Salvation Army...

Ooohh. A different incredible used book store. Not familiar with that one. I'll have to check into that.
Renaissance is downtownish, around Water street.
3 stories of used books in an old building that's likely to fall over any minute.
Kewl place.

Four floors, actually; plus another of storage; and half the building next door is our paperback annex.

And the building is not nearly as unsound as it looks.

Have you ever seen our branch out at the airport? Less funk, more order; many books.

Wow, there's an old post.
I know the building is very stable, but I have to throw that comment in because it adds to the personality of the store. (Besides, if my friends think it's going to fall over they will rush that much more quickly to check it out) =)

I have been to the airport location and it is indeed a smaller version of awesome. But I have to say the main store is my favorite with its spectacular personality (and selection), and I only wish I had more time these days to peruse and shop and read.

Hmmm...That rules out Half Price Books...though those are fantabulous as well...

So how many of those are Stephen King, 'cause I know I see at least 2 or 3 that I can recognize... :)

I BLAME LJ TECHNOLOGY.

For whatever reason that has yet to be determined, LJ refuses to acknowledge the subject line when I send picture-bearing e-mails from my phone.

And here we see the rare Panthera onca bipedus on his return from a successful hunt.

One would think that his prey caught, the hunt is now over, but in a strange ritual, the Panthera Onca Bipedus will spend the next several weeks slowly and patiently mauling each individual carcass with great attention to detail, and perhaps passing the carcasses back and forth with other members of the species Bipedus in neighboring territories. The trading of carcasses seems to fulfill some sort of primal need, and will often be accompanied by ritualistic consumption of spoiling vegetable liquids and the flesh of more recently killed prey.

Le sigh...

I've never had that kind of luck in a thrift store...Half Price Books, on the other hand...uffda!

I've purchased similarly ginormous stacks of books from Half Price Books. And Borders...and Barnes & Noble...and my college bookstore (but that was for classes...)

I wish I could say I've purchased a serious stack 'o books like that from Harry W. Schwartz bookshop, but I've yet to do so.

Regardless, one of these weekends you're up this way we'll have to make a whirlwind type used bookstore tour and cap it with a stop at one of the Schwartz stores...
