Thoughts from the 4th level....
Nov. 5th, 2001 04:25 pmBecause I was out for training last week, I am on call this week.
At 1410 CST our link with Cable and Wireless, one of the ISPs that service our office, took a hit thanks to a line failure -- or so it seems. At 1540 CST our BGP table, which also took a hit thanks to the line failure, began to suck. Routing upstream of our location is not functioning properly for two of our class C networks, the ones that we just so happen to care about the Internet being able to reach (naturally). Cable & Wireless sucks at tech support, they suck at troubleshooting, and in general they are airheads of the highest caliber. I opened a ticket at 1603 CST. Somehow I doubt they'll get back to me in the next 15 minutes, meaning I will have to call them to annoy them and find out what is going on up there at their POP. I equally doubt they'll be able to fix this problem in anything approaching a timely manner, meaning I will not get much rest tonight.

Date: 2001-11-08 10:12 am (UTC)After staying late, I found out that a floppy drive in one of the systems I need decided to fail. So I had to find a screwdriver and replace the drive with one out of a working computer. (Shoot now, ask questions later. Or, in this case, plunder now, call Dell later.) Then I encountered a flaw in the project's process which irritated me to no end. The flaw did not stop me from being able to gather the information my boss's boss wanted. However, since I strive for perfection, it bugs the H3LL out of me. My boss found me in the lab kicking cabinets. I need another vacation!
I finally get out of work at 5PM, I *know* I'm going to encounter heavy traffic. Worse yet, it's starting to rain, and it's only raining enough to wipe every few seconds. I found out my windshield wipers are so bad that they leave streaks for a couple seconds after the wiper pass, which means I could proably only see half the time. I also hate headlights shining at me in the opposite direction!
I am SO glad that I'm not an "on-call" person with a company cell phone. x_x
