Dave Thomas, founder and chairman of Wendy's International (the fast food chain, if you have been living in a cave on the moon with your eyes closed, ears plugged, and faced away from the entrance for the last eight years) has died.
There was a great retrospective on him on NPR last night while I was driving home. They talked about how he was just the complete opposite of what you'd expect a CEO to be. The way he came across in his commercials? That's how he really was.
What stuck with me the most was listening to one of the people who'd gone to Ohio to work in the home office...he said how for weeks after he'd moved there, Dave Thomas kept checking up on him, making sure that he was settling into the area okay, asking if he needed anything. And this guy wasn't a VP or anything big like that!
He'll be missed...I hope the company can continue its current atmosphere with him gone.
Ack
