Okay, quite frankly, that sucks. Thanks for the link... has a few good tips in there that I'm probably going to start using... and a couple of nervous tidbits in the whole 'warning signs' area.
Hopefully they'll have a treatment for you that doesn't require surgery. My dad had carpal tunnel, and I think he just wore braces on his wrists for awhile. Of course now he has arthritis and he needs to go in for cortizone shots every so often... bleh :P
I had some stinging/burning in my wrists when I used to work tech support. I got myself a Natural keyboard, and believe it or not, it helps a lot. I'm not sure if you already have one, but...
Feren, I wish I could box up all the crap things that have happened to you (and Ra) and encase the box in concrete and sink it in the Mariana Trench. I'm very frustrated; I wish I could do something for you. What's your prognosis?

You're going to hear a lot of advice from people about this, and I don't want to feel left out, so here are my two cents: if your insurance allows for it, look into a few acupuncture treatments on top of whatever the doctor prescribes. It did wonders for the damage in my knees (I don't know if you remember my dark years of hobbling around with a cane).
Went to the doctor...
