I had a weekend!

Well, I had a long, winding, detailed entry about my weekend written here, but somehow I managed to hi-lite and delete the entire goddamn thing with just two keystrokes, and I cannot get it back. This has not put me in the best mood, so I think I'm going to skip a retype for the time being and just write a brief executive summary here. Suffice it to say at this point that I had an interesting weekend that involved a trip to the local Japanese market, the zoo, and Fuddruckers. I also was on call which made me pull a bit of after-hours support on Friday, although it wasn't too terrible because I was able to get the problem resolved in a fairly short amount of time. All told, everything was pretty nice: I got to hang out with good friends, have some good food, and see faces I hadn't seen in quite some time. Sunday had some rough spots that dampened my spirits, cumulating in another rough spot on Sunday night that left me on the wrong side of the depression tracks, a mood I still haven't shaken this morning. It doesn't help, though, that its Monday and I'm at work, sipping subpar coffee and plotting the next move in the game of chess that is my career.

If I'm particularly motivated later today, I'll re-write the entry that got deleted thanks to whatever cruel, mocking spirits haunt this workstation.

Thank you so much for lending space to me and Paul, and for making our stay in Chicago grand, as always! Paul is now firmly addicted to Invader Zim thanks to you, and my new cephalopods are already grinning at me from their place of honour on my sofa.

I was a little bummed that we didn't get to say goodbye properly, but you were pretty fast asleep, and there was a snowstorm moving in. Even though we hit the road at 8:30 AM, we met with disasterously bad weather just past Madison. Cars off the road, white-out conditions, the whole thing.

But the weekend was great. Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

At some point between Madison and Black River Falls on Sunday, the snow began getting so bad that I couldn't see more than a few feet in front of my car. It was godawful.

I imagine the snow there didn't stick around long, though. I came to work on Monday with snow covering the ground, and when I left that evening, the grass was green again.

KDE with klipper is great for accidents like that

klipper is a clipboard history applet on the taskbar. I sometimes do equally idiotic things, and what saves me is that anytime the X clipboard changes, klipper puts it in its history. In your case, a copy of your text would have been saved when you selected it for deletion.

It doesn't seem to choke on massive clipboards, either. I've selected multiple 200k chunks of text in a row and used klipper to paste them somewhere else without any problems.
