I believe I mentioned that I spent a number of hours yesterday outside, directly in the hot sun.

The hot, afternoon sun.

With no protection on my head. My bald head.

Can you guess the end result? Sure you can! My scalp has sunburned nicely. Damn you, male pattern baldness! I should file a complaint with my employer -- if we were allowed to wear hats in addition to this ridiculous business-casual dress code (which really shouldn't apply to the Engineering staff unless we have a vendor meeting), I wouldn't have gotten scorched. Looks like I'll be spending my day with a cool washcloth on my head. I already look ridiculous with a bright red dome, so putting a washcloth on it will at least afford me some relief from the throbbing of the burn.

Aloe. I swear by it. It's green, and it's sticky, but it works.

The washcloth will feel good in the meantime though, I'm sure.

I am a huge fan of aloe after being burned a few times in Florida and once in Hawaii (that was the burn to end all burns, ugh). Unfortunately I don't have any here in the house so I'll have to venture out in public to find some.

It'll totally be worth it, though my pillow slips are going to look very strange for the next few days. ;)

Buy yourself a shower-cap at the same time, and put it on before going to bed :>

The upside of all this...

You could probably buy a bottle of the stuff and submit the receipt to the company as an expense.

Aloe's also good for when you take the hot radiator cap off the overheated van, and it spews steam in your face.....yes, I'm looking at you, Plato.

Dude it might should mean (not trying to be,) but try something like this. http://www.wigwarehouse.com/wig/list.asp?part=MEN (http://www.wigwarehouse.com/wig/list.asp?part=MEN)

Our company will never change its mind about dress code. Besides, you can make fun of our dress code policy every time you have to wear it. "We're not allowed to wear a hat, but ugly wigs and toupe's are not a problem...."

Personally, I would choose the MEN002 - only if it came with the muttonchops. That just seems more appropriate for this place ;)

That reminds me - my hair is thinning out too... :(

Ow ow ow.

I go to Noah's Ark, and Coppertone Ultra-sweatproof Sport Sunblock SPF 45 is your friend. I put it everywhere, and I mean everywhere, back of the knees, tops of my feet, cheeks, ears, eyelids. Places I won't mention.

And one place I forgot one year: The part in my hair. Oh cripes, did that hurt. You don't need baldness to get a scalp sunburn.

Aloe Vera is your friend, I can get you her phone number.

File workman's comp, and come to work with a huuuge white cowboy hat, marked with a red cross. :)

I second the notion of filing a claim and making work pay for at least the aloe.

When I was in the Bay area visiting [livejournal.com profile] doomsey when he was working on an internship at Intel, I went on a boatride and didn't bother to wear a hat. I ended up with a bad sunburn along the part in my hair. That puppy hurt like you wouldn't believe. And that wasn't all. About a week to two weeks later, I got the worst case of dandruff ever because the skin on my scalp started to peel.

Have fun! :)
