Date: 2006-06-25 08:11 pm (UTC)I think that came from a number of different places. I think there was a desire for normalcy, a desire for things to continue on at some sort of regular pace. My grandfather was old-old, and his passing was not unexpected, nor on some levels unwelcome.
I guess all I am trying to say is that if your relationship with your family is otherwise good, then you could probably chock their behavior up to the fact that no one really has a handle yet, even after all these thousands of years, on death. If you want to go, and would feel welcomed once you got there, I would go.
