One of the biggest things that held me back from submitting my application until this fall was the line of reasoning in the back of my mind that said, "By having this ID they'll know exactly where to come knocking when they finally decide none of the (law-abiding) civilians should be armed." I eventually had to swallow my pride and get past that paranoid or I'd never get to go skeet shooting again.
That isn't to say I wouldn't put it past this state to try and pull something like that. But we all have to make compromises. As for CCPs, that would be really nice and I'd do my qualification for one in a second. But since we've had the FOID act here since 1968 and since stun guns are considered firearms? Yeah, that's totally not going to happen.
