So tonight I am working from home...
Feb. 1st, 2002 08:11 pm... on a Friday
... three hours after my shift ended
... when I'm not on call
... because the person who is on call doesn't know how to do the tasks required
... because my manager won't send her to training.
HULK SMASH!

compassionate conservatism, my ass!
Date: 2002-02-02 06:15 am (UTC)We have a seven year old server, no longer under warranty, still running the back-end applications to our Help Desk software. Recently, the BIOS detected problems with both processors at boot but continues to start up. Now one of the processors is dead, as in it won't even show up at boot. In the past week, there hasn't been a day I've been able to ignore the server for one reason or another. We've got a quote in for a new server, which I'm getting the inside information won't be approved because all new computer purchases have to go through the VP of IT to the CEO, and the CEO is approving nothing. No-ting, mon. Okay, when the server finally fails, guess who's going to get dumped on. No, it won't be management.
There is a point after which not spending any money becomes counterproductive and fiscally unsound. Someday, management will find that point and start doing things The Right Way. That'll be later rather than sooner, unfortunately.
