Huhwha?

While driving to work each day I go through something like a dozen stoplights. With my luck, I usually end up getting to each one just as it's turning yellow and traffic begins to stop. I do wish that the city planners would get a better idea of what our traffic patterns really look like and would have the duration of the greens last a little longer, but there is one benefit to sitting at these lights: I get to do a little peoplewatching. Sometimes this is just looking at the guy standing on the street corner as he waits for the signal to start over the crosswalk, other times it affords me an opportunity to look at the vehicles that people drive. Today I was behind a van which appeared to be a fleet vehicle. What really caught my interest was the name that was stenciled onto the back doors: "Alarm Detection Systems, Inc."

Alarm Detection Systems, Inc? What, they come into my home, wave a tricorder-like device around and tell me if I have a burglar alarm or a smoke detector installed?

*beep* *beep* *beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!*
"Yeah, man, I don't know if you noticed it... but according to my detector... right over there, in the hallway, above the linen closet? You've got a smoke alarm...."
"REALLY? Oh wow! I'm glad I hired you guys...."
