feren: I AM THE MAN (livingston)

Those of you who have known me for a while know that I am a very keen fan of Stephen King and his various works. While browsing the Internet Movie Database this morning I found a neat little piece of news. It seems that Anthony Hopkins will be playing Ted Brautigan in a movie adaptation of Stephen King's compilation novel Hearts In Atlantis. I have to be rather amused at the tag line, "What if one of life's great mysteries moved in upstairs?"

To the best of my knowledge this is the first adaptation of a Stephen King novel that will come even remotely close to touching on the Gunslinger universe, and I'm eager to see how they handle this very complex story. Not to mention it's going to be weird to see the man who played Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter portraying a character that is almost 180 degrees around from that role.

Ooh, Sir Anthony would be great in that role! However, I know they'll fuck it up somehow, they always do. So I'm a little apprehensive about seeing the movie when it's done.

Hollywood loves to make movies out of books, if only they could do it right for once!

Well, is Hearts in Atlantis one of his drama/fantasy type books? Or a horror? Judging by Feren's comment about it touching on the Gunslinger universe, I'm guessing the former, and they've actually done a fairly good job with those! To wit, The Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, The Green Mile (from what I hear)...they might not ruin it :)

You still haven't read The Green Mile? I need to stop by your place this weekend and drop if off for you, then. I know I went to see it with you or Aureth (I'll be damned if I can remember who it was exactly) when it came out in theaters and was very pleased by the work they produced based on the serial.

That reminds me, I need to get that flick on DVD.

Nono, I've read it, I just haven't seen it yet! At least, I think I read most of it...it was a while ago. I was reading it when it was the original serial novel, and I think I might've missed one or two :P Maybe a refresher wouldn't be such a bad idea after all!

So, by deduction, I guess you saw it with Aureth in the theatres :)
