I was reading through a couple of the listserves I'm on while I'm killing time here at work, and happened upon an e-mail from the NANOG list that contained a link to a rather interesting news article. After reading it, I really started to think the high-pressure competition here in the US is no match for this, unless you're a guy without a union card trying to work next to the Teamster's favorite bar.

There are days when I wish I could back an ILEC employee into a corner and beat him like a naughty puppy, but this is something else.

IMHO...

This should happen in the USA.

Really. The greedy RBOCs may be more reasonable if the threat of their DCOs burning down each day was stark reality.

Sadly, this really -is- what it'll take to restore competition in the USA.

You know, one day over the winter we lost WAN service for the better part of the day. The story we got from Verizon (I think -- Verizon and Sprint both have their thumbs in the pie) was that a bum looking for shelter broke in to a switching station and started a small fire, which knocked out service.

Maybe that "bum" was secretly being paid by AT&T?

PS: "That's why I hate MCI..."
